Making a toys tier list
Toy rankings are almost entirely nostalgia-driven, and the interesting version of the list acknowledges that. Ranking by how long a toy actually held attention, rather than by how badly it was wanted, produces a very different and much funnier result.
Ask how long each one lasted before it was abandoned. Play value and desire turn out to be only loosely related, and the gap is where the good arguments are.

Frequently asked questions
- How do you rank toys?
- Decide between nostalgia and play value. Nostalgia produces the list you expect; play value - how long something actually held attention - produces the one worth arguing about.
- What is S tier on a toy list?
- Usually something open-ended. Construction sets and simple physical toys outlast most licensed items, because they do not run out of things to do.
- What age should a toy tier list be ranked for?
- State one, because it changes everything. A toy that is S tier for a four year old is unusable for a nine year old, and an unstated age range is why most toy rankings feel arbitrary.
