Making a sports tier list
Sports split cleanly into two very different lists: the ones that are good to play and the ones that are good to watch. Almost nobody ranks them the same way, so pick one before you start. Doing both at once is the fastest route to a tier list where everything ends up in B.
Watch-versus-play is the big split, but there is a third framing worth trying: which sport would you be least bad at having never trained? It produces a completely different list and it is much harder to argue with.

Frequently asked questions
- How do you make a sports tier list?
- Decide whether you are ranking sports to watch or sports to play, then place each one. Almost nobody ranks the two the same way, and combining them is the quickest route to a list where everything sits in the middle.
- What makes a sport S tier?
- On a watching list, S tier usually means it is compelling even when you have no stake in the result. On a playing list, it means you would turn up for it in bad weather. Those rarely pick out the same sports.
